Perhaps you want to get more followers or you want an edge of your competitors when it comes to social media. Maybe you post great work, and yet you feel it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Or maybe you are just starting out and don’t know where to start.
Whatever it may be, the sole purpose of this article is to help you understand how Instagram works and give you some useful hacks that will help you grow your page.
1. Use hashtags wisely
What do we mean by that? The hashtags are there to boost your Instagram level of interaction; that is their sole purpose. And while this might not seem like a hack, using them properly can truly give you a massive jump.
Many people don’t know how to utilize this and just put as many hashtags as they can, which ultimately becomes time-consuming and just appears to the viewers as spam content. A much simpler and better way is to find your niche and exclude any hashtags that don’t match your theme.
Instead, find all tags regarding your niche even if it means putting three similar words such as photograph, photography, and photographer with aims to maximize exposure. This way, you will have a dense target with your hashtags and be able to reach the people who would be most interested in your content and share your thoughts. Quality over quantity always wins.
2. Your bio is important
The bio is the first thing most people see when they visit your profile. So naturally, a good bio can attract people and ultimately help them decide if they want to follow. Something witty and playful is always good. But you should write whatever you think best represents you. Whether you want to put emojis or just text, it’s your decision.
Every tool Instagram has is there for a reason. And the bio is a key element of your account. You should think of it as the title of your account or as the cover of your book. The stronger it is, the more people will be drawn and likely to share or recommend you to a friend.
Searching through influencers and people you follow and seeing what catches your eye could provide some insight into what’s working or not.
3. Be active and post at the right time
At the end of the day, Instagram is a social media app. And like all social media platforms, the goal and idea behind their existence are socializing.
Reach out to your favorite hashtags and comment, like, and follow. Be present and show people that you are an active Instagram user. You cannot expect for people to just come to your page if you aren’t an Instagram user yourself. Being active is key on a social media platform, and Instagram is no exception. Passive accounts have less traffic. So, until you reach a massive following and able to grow from solely shares, you must be active.
When it comes to posting, you should always aim to be most active at times that pay off the most. You are wasting views and getting toppled by other posts if you post at times like four PM.
There are many theories out there as to when and how often to post. We suggest if you’re just getting started to try and post daily. We’ve found that mornings work best. But posting daily can be time consuming and we don’t suggest posting that often if you don’t have the content. We’ll get into content shortly. Your users will unfollow or mute you if you post too often and/or if you post content that is annoying.
4. Let the content speak for itself
While it might sound counter-intuitive, taking a step back can attract more people. We live in a swipe up and subscribe-to culture that sometimes gets too pushy. Most people push products down the customer’s throat. And this can be a major turn off in the long run. Keeping a cool head is a great way for smart branding. Think Apple, for instance. They put everything in their products and then put them out there to be stories of their own. Of course, with simple minimalist ads. But there is no reason you couldn’t implement this in your Instagram style of advertising your own brand.
Your job should be to give your all while creating the product that goes on your page and then let the product itself do most of the work. Good products resonate with people without needing to be forced.
Find others in your niche that are further along and see what they are doing. We don’t suggest copying them but do look to see what’s working and not working. You’ll find some similarities and some ideas that you can incorporate into your content.
We also suggest that you are consistent with your look and style. As you look at other brands and influencers scroll through their images and for the good one’s you’ll see that you can scroll through quickly and see that the images and video tend to go well together.
5. Build meaningful relationships
After all, Instagram is there for fun. Sure, it is a powerful platform, indeed. But at the core, it is an app about sharing with the world and being able to see things you wouldn’t have been able to see normally.
Having friends who share your interests and ideas is very important.
As much as we would all love to have a lot of followers, having a few true friends is as equally as important. Because when you have at least one friend that supports you and they happen to get a rise in followers, so will you. When you start thinking like this, you will be able to build a web of potential boosts for your account. The sky is the limit.
Imagine a friend gets a million followers and promoters you on their story. By average, you will instantly get at least a thousand followers and then slowly even more. This is exactly why good friendships are important on Instagram.
It is totally up to you what you do and how you want to market your Instagram. But there are some main styles and patterns to go with. Of course, the type of content has a lot to do with how you will get on with marketing, and your general attitude will play a role as well.
The biggest thing to remember is to stay true to yourself and use these hacks wisely. Not all rules were made to be followed, but the good rules are like blueprints for success. Good luck!
